Mumbai, April 22: Netflix put the spotlight on Indian storytelling at its APAC showcase in Tokyo, unveiling a trio of exciting productions headlined by Bollywood stars Rajkummar Rao and R. Madhavan, all set for release in 2025. As reported by Variety, the streaming giant emphasized its growing investment in diverse content from India, spanning multiple languages and genres.
“This year is going to be our most diverse yet,” said Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, head of Netflix India’s original films. She highlighted the success of recent hits like Pushpa 2, Dragon, and Chhaava, and teased more big-ticket theatrical releases coming to Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Currently streaming is Test, Netflix’s first original Tamil-language film. The sports drama stars R. Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth.
Among the upcoming titles is Jewel Thief, a high-octane heist-action film starring Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, set to premiere just days after the showcase.
Netflix also unveiled three new productions:
Aap Jaisa Koi: A romantic drama set in Kolkata, starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Directed by Vivek Soni, the film explores an unexpected relationship between a reserved schoolteacher in his 40s and a confident French teacher in her 30s. It marks Madhavan’s return to the romance genre.
Inspector Zende: Inspired by true events, this 1980s-set crime drama stars Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh. Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film follows Madhukar Bapurao Zende, a humble but sharp-witted Mumbai police officer, as he chases down notorious international criminal Carl Bhojraj.
With this lineup, Netflix is doubling down on its commitment to bringing bold, varied, and locally rooted Indian stories to a global audience.
